Pyrope

I KNOW I HAVE OTHER STUFF TO DO, BUT
I had so much fun drawing this omg. After seeing Sardonyx, my future plans of working on fusions were kickstarted, and I wanted to start off with fusing Obsidian with Garnet because of inspiration. I really like how this turned out, it was so much fun to do.

(Below is probably just stuff I care about, I drew this for myself, but I want to blabber about it anyways)

I went with Pyrope because it is (a type of) Garnet (or like, the reddest of Garnets, but they never used the name SO I TOOK IT OKAY). All of Obsidian’s fusions (save for a couple) are going to be igneous in origin (to keep it consistent with Obsidian being volcanic glass), and this seemed like the best option since both Garnet and Obsi are extremely heat resistant and are created in sort of similar conditions. In my own sort of headcanon, Obsidian was created to be a working class gem to do dirty work and make weapons for other gems during the war (except she was left behind, but anyways), so I thought a blacksmith would be a perfect way to portray Pyrope as both of them combined.

A heavy duty, hot-headed headstrong fusion where her weapon can be used as a tool as well. The breaker can break apart metal and stone (or be used to fight), and the maker side moulds from spiky (like Garnet’s gauntlets, spiky for fighting) to flat (like a smith’s hammer), and they can be held separately in each hand or together connected by the light rod summoned by Ruby and Sapphire’s gems in Pyrope’s hands. It was a little challenging to fuse the double bladed daggers and gauntlets together, but this was the best thing I could come up with (fists are visible on both sides, I liked that feature haha). The sunglasses are now a nice, handy face mask, and there is so much red, red everywhere forever.

The reason why I made the fusion almost perfect was b/c Obsidian would look up to Garnet like a role model/idolize her in a way, also they are sort of similar in some ways (physically by gem origin), and also GARNET IS MY BIRTHSTONE SO YEAH. Her personality will start off really bad and destructive since Obsidian has like, 0 fusion experience and isn’t physically strong herself, so the overwhelming feeling of power would make her instability go over the edge. But as all hot things cool down and harden, so will her personality until she is headstrong, but also collected. She will always have short-sightedness as a disadvantage (future vision eye is covered), and due to the heavy duty outfit, she will also be a lot slower and heavier as well. Haha I could actually see Pyrope being like, a Master Blacksmith type being in charge of the deep bellows of a forgery with many other workers working under her, but then again I may have played too much WoW in my days.
